Here’s what Tennessee’s United States Senators, and those who would replace them, were on about recently.
U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, reacting to the 21-hour speech by fellow Sen. Ted Cruz, said that he is playing this more like Sam Houston than like Davy Crockett. Alexander also mused about whether the whole thing was thought up by Democrats.
Alexander’s reference to those two famous Tennesseans in Texas amounted to dangling red meat in front of Rep. Joe Carr, whose stump speeches already contain comparisons between himself and the fighters who died at the Alamo. Carr’s shot back at his primary opponent had all the subtlety of a Bowie knife.
U.S. Sen. Bob Corker, who’s not running for re-election, took his own chance to lambaste Cruz, saying that the much-discussed “talkathon” was just for show.
Meanwhile, Brenda Lenard announced she is hosting a fundraiser with former Chattanooga Moc and NFLer Terrell Owens in December.
