The peace on Christmas?

An exchange of tweets spanning Wednesday night and Thursday morning seem to indicate upcoming bipartisan and bicameral cooperation on a measure that would address the backlog of untested rape kits from investigations in Memphis and across the state.

As reported by WMC-TV, Rep. Antonio Parkinson (D-Memphis) hopes to establish new standards that would ensure rape kits are submitted to an approved lab, and processed by that lab, within specified timelines.

After Parkinson linked to the news release on his Twitter feed, a Senate colleague signaled his support in the upper chamber. “I’m happy to work on this with you if you need a Senate sponsor,” tweeted Sen. Brian Kelsey (R-Germantown), adding “Merry Christmas!”

Parkinson responded with “Let’s do it.”
