Bill Gibbons withdraws candidacy

Shelby County District Attorney General Bill Gibbons announced his withdrawal from the race for Governor of Tennessee today. Post Politics has the full statement and several reactions.

Gibbons’ exit leaves Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey, and U.S. Representative Zach Wamp as the major Republican candidates.

As the lead prosecutor in a large city, Gibbons focused heavily on addressing crime in his campaign messages, although education was another major theme.
